Lesson
Students will become familiar with classroom rules and procedures. We will also play get-to-know-me games to become familiar with each other. Finally, we will create a map and discuss what geographers study.
Student Expectations
Students should enter the classroom respectfully, have a seat in a desk, take out and prepare their materials for the day (sharpen pencils, open journals to current page), and read the content and language objectives for the day. After getting ready for the day, the student should begin their warm up (sometimes called a bell ringer) and be ready to participate in class.
**Late students will need to sign in on the tardy form at the classroom entrance. They are still required to complete warmups and prepare for the day.
All classroom expectations are defined below using the Champs poster.

Students should have a bound composition notebook for class in addition to pencils/pens and loose leaf paper. Bound Composition books are used for class notes and will be used starting week 2.

Classroom Discussion/Assignment Portal
Students will use Google Classrooms as a learning management system. This allows students to participate in blog discussions, turn in and receive feedback on assignments, receive announcements, and more.

How to use this website
This website is your window into what is going on in our World Geography classroom. We update this website regularly to keep parents informed about daily activities and assignments, as well as provide tutoring and additional resources to students. Everything we do in class is on this website and more!
In addition to being a tutoring resource, this website is great for students who are absent. Absent students are still required to complete all regular class assignments (warm ups, notes, daily work, assignments/projects). Absent students should access this website, locate the lesson of the day they missed, print handouts, read/view the lesson of the day, complete all class work as necessary, and turn in work to their teacher within three (3) days.

Concepts of Geography
Contrary of the days of yore, our geography class focuses on concepts of geography and not on identifying locations and cultures. To better understand some of the concepts we will focus on this year, please click the link below to watch the late, great Hans Rosling explain many of the concepts we will explore in World Geography.

Rules and Procedures Quiz
Click the title above to complete the quiz. You will use this page (1st Week) and its' resources to answer the questions. You will need to score a 100% to continue in this course.
Map Building Activity
Students will view and discuss a map. Then the map visual will be removed and students will have to recreate the map with a partner. Students will need to identify the Equator, Prime Meridian, North and South Pole, the oceans, continents, and locate Dickinson, TX as well as other familiar major cities as well. After students attempt to create the map from memory the teacher will clarify/verify the information with the class.
