Lesson:
Students will begin by copying the EQ's and the vocabulary found in the PowerPoint into their journals. Next students will read IR-29 and take notes using IR-28's graphic organizer. Next we will watch videos that explain the history and process of devolution for the USSR and Yugoslavia. We will follow the video with a class discussion to clarify/verify the information. Finally, we will read an article on USA and Russia's relationship. Students will answer the prompt, 'What issue divides the US and Russia the most? Explain, using evidence from the article.' No matter how harsh the government was, it could not stop the devolution of the USSR.
Yugoslavia, located next to Italy and Greece, is another example of devolution. It's demise came after religious and ethnic differences that resulted in a bloody conflict in the 1990's.
