Lesson 5: Levels of Development
Students will begin by copying the EQ's in their geographer's journal on the next clean page. Next, students will participate in a PowerPoint presentation to preview vocabulary, then students will complete the reading in IR-15 and take notes in IR-14's graphic organizer.
Level of Development Project
Directions:
Students will choose only ONE country from EACH group [Exa.- Australia (Group A), Mexico (Group B), and Bangladesh (Group C)] to research and record specific factors that can determine whether a country is More Developed (Core Countries), Newly Industrialized (Semi Periphery Countries), or Less Developed (Peripheral Countries). Students will record specific data needed to determine which level of development the country is (see handout Below to see what data is needed).
Next, after students have recorded all the data for each group, students will determine whether that country is in the More Developed (Core Countries), Newly Industrialized (Semi Periphery Countries), or Less Developed (Peripheral Countries).
Finally, on the back of the handout students will draw line from the countries they selected to a text box and record why they think that country has the level of development they selected.
